Viega systems in University Hospitals Ahuja Medical Center

The University Hospital (UH) Ahuja Medical Center provides high-quality patient and family-centered care in Beachwood, Ohio, USA. It is a 370,000-square-foot facility situated on 53 acres. Here the versatility of Viega system solutions provided an opportunity to use Viega ProRadiant for a snow melting system and Viega Profipress (US standard) for the drinking water installation.

Working together, MCAA mechanical contractors Smith & Oby and the Coleman Spohn Corporation installed the Viega systems throughout the hospital. Dave Kause, Vice President of Operations at Coleman Spohn, has worked in the industry since 1962. “We use Viega products on numerous projects,” Kause said. “It’s our intent to continue using them. And that’s based on our past experiences.”

Different fields of application, one manufacturer

Smith & Oby and Coleman Spohn installed a Viega ProRadiant snow melting system in the hospital helicopter pad, parking lots, building entrances and sidewalks. They also installed Viega Profipress in sizes ½" to 1" for the drinking water installation throughout the UH Ahuja Medical Center.

Viega ProRadiant systems are versatile and can provide consistent, efficient heating or cooling in nearly any project; whether residential, commercial or industrial. And Viega offers reliable press systems in multiple materials, from copper to stainless steel in two high-quality grades, 304 and 316. All Viega systems meet or exceed the most rigorous codes and standards in North America and are backed by the industry’s best warranty.

Mike Brandt, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Smith & Oby, expressed that Viega Profipress also takes the worry out of complicated future installations. “It’s easier to add on to the system on a Viega Profipress system than a solder type,” Brandt said. “If you have to cut into a tee, it’s not as hard to do. And you don’t need a hot work permit.”
